so much to look at…

Some days I sit down “just for a minute” to check the blogs — you know, that loooooooong list down the right of the page — and next thing I know, three hours have passed (or sometimes MORE), and I find I’ve traveled all around the world via the internet, I’ve had adventures, and ideas, [...]

Fearless Stitch: vampires, leeches, and losers – oh my..

Nothing knots my
thread more than vampires, leeches, and losers — I’m not talking about the cool vampires here, but the lowest class of blood suckers who bite our hard work, our original designs, and our honest attempts to share our artistry. The internet is both blessing and curse in that it allows us creative types [...]

working the wicked…

Of course, you had to guess,  stitch is indeed my first love! This piece was a blast to work on — and I still intend to stitch up the skull, but today is my girly’s 8th birthday (!!) so I’ve been working on a lovely fairy cake (below)

not wicked stitch, but a different kind of [...]

what else might victoria heart??

After pounding out a whole pile of samples for what other people might heart, I started thinking about me.  Having a long standing love of the rebus, eye decided to heart… oops, almost gave it away! Will finish up the stitchin and post SOON, but here’s a peek at the beginnings…metallic thread ROCKS!!

Teaching News…

As a child, I can vividly remember loading a backpack with books and setting off across the yard to go play “school” which was conveniently staged on the porch at my grandma’s house next door. I spent hours drawing diagrams on my chalkboard there, and endlessly assigning worksheets to my wide eyed dolls. Guess it’s [...]

threadsketching moving along…

This guy has been floating around in my sketchbooks for a looooong time — like 10 years.  I knew when I did the first pastel sketch way back when that he needed…..crunch.  Texture.  But I didn’t yet have the language to espress him.  Until now.  In developing Threadsketching for my students, I’ve managed to make [...]

SWISH: Easter scannin…

Though they don’t line up exactly, this is the meadow piece.  It seems it took forever to get a decent scan — the flatbed does not like 3d stitchery! But son and I manouvered ourselves, scanner and it’s lid, and stitchery into a workable configuration!  Guess this makes up for the crappy cold weather that’s [...]

My column posted today!!!

For those following, my April “Creating Without a Net” column is up today!! Go see and “See With Different Eyes” to discover possibilities for your art!! *link*

HELL ON TOEST! That’s, toe with “st”….

Yes dear reader, that’s toe with an -st at the end.  See the band aid? See the needle?  Oh yeah, I suffer for my art.  Here’s my tale of toe, uh, woe.
I’m working on the BIG root last night (hereafter referred to as The Bitch) , but I couldn’t reach where I needed to work [...]

SWISH: Sew much to do

Lame pun, but I know you all feel it! Trying to find balance is just so hard — between the family, the neverending house list, (man, chores suck), the incontinent dog, the shedding dog,  the impending gallery show (eeek–3 months), the new patterns that need scanning, the blogs to keep up with (NEVERending–WHERE do people [...]
